Agricultural Law
B+T’s history in Indiana agriculture extends back to 1853 when Jacob L. Boring received 80 acres of land located just outside Shelby County pursuant to the Federal Homestead Act. Since that time, three generations of the Boring family have lived on and farmed those 80 acres and others in central Indiana. B+T’s original founder and current Partner Emeritus, Gary Boring, was raised on Jacob Boring’s original family land. Gary and his son, current Partner Mike Boring, both worked on the family farm growing up.
B+T’s experience in agricultural law, family farm succession and estate planning, and cooperative law coincides with the founding of the firm. Gary Boring served as general counsel and then CEO for CountryMark Cooperative from 1995 to 2003. In private practice, Gary has completed more than thirty-five corporate mergers of Indiana agricultural cooperatives, and B+T has become the go-to law firm for nearly every agricultural cooperative in the state. B+T provides its agricultural business services to clients with a full range of legal needs, including everything from corporate matters to real estate transactions to litigation to employment law.
Litigation
B+T’s litigators, Mike Boring and Chris Taylor, have almost thirty years of combined litigation experience between them and have handled litigation matters, great and small, from complex multi-million dollar commercial litigation down to straightforward contract disputes and collections matters. Mike and Chris are experienced in all facets of trial and appellate work in both federal and state courts. They also regularly counsel clients through alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediation and arbitration. In every matter, B+T’s attorneys zealously advocate for their clients and meet their goals as quickly and efficiently as possible. They are trusted advisors who offer a unique combination of legal strategy, skill, experience, and practical know-how.
Business & Corporate Law
B+T counsels corporations and businesses of all sizes and types on the full range of corporate matters, from formation and entity creation to business sale and asset disposition, as well as everything in between. We regularly advise entrepreneurs, small businesses, shareholders, corporate managers, and boards of directors on issues such as business planning, contract negotiation and drafting, mergers and acquisitions, private securities offerings, labor and employment disputes, corporate filings and records, real estate purchase and sale, commercial leasing, collections, bankruptcy and reorganization, and more.
Labor & Employment
Before joining B+T, current Partner Chris Taylor worked for nearly eight years in the labor and employment group of one of Indiana’s largest law firms, practicing exclusively in the areas of employment, labor, and human resources law. As a result, Chris offers the experience, expertise, and intellectual horsepower of a big firm lawyer at a more reasonable price. B+T regularly advises and counsels clients on all manner of labor and employment issues, such as employment contracts, non-compete agreements, severance and release agreements, employee handbooks, employment policy drafting, discrimination and harassment avoidance, wage and hour claims, wrongful termination claims, unemployment, and I-9 compliance.
Estate Planning
Wise representation of individuals and families isn’t just about responding to crises and resolving disputes; it’s also about planning and making arrangements for the future. B+T provides estate planning and administration services ranging from simple wills to complex probate proceedings. Of particular importance are business succession issues for family-owned businesses, for which careful planning and asset protection are essential. B+T provides a full range of estate planning services, including will and trusts, living wills, powers of attorney, appointment of healthcare representatives, trusts, preparation and administration of estate plans, estate tax planning, guardianships, probate proceedings, and will contests.
Personal Injury
Personal injury is defined as any injury or harm suffered by a person as a result of another’s negligence or wrongful act. Personal injuries can be physical, mental, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and more. They are injuries that affect and diminish a person’s quality of life at home, work, in social circles, or anywhere else. Negligence is defined as the failure to act with the practicality or caution that a sensible person, under the same circumstances, would have exercised. If a person is injured as a result of another’s negligence, they may be entitled to compensation in a court of law. If you’ve been injured, B+T’s attorneys are ready to fight for your rights.

B+T represents both men and women in family law and domestic relations matters. We have extensive experience in this area and are sensitive to the special needs of families during times of difficulty. B+T represents clients in every kind of family law matter, including legal separation, divorce, child custody and child support modification and enforcement, child abuse and neglect proceedings (CHINS), pre-marital agreements, and adoptions.

B+T’s attorneys have an established reputation for providing diligent and tenacious criminal defense. We understand the enormous impact a criminal conviction can have on your life, your family’s life, and your future, and we will not rest until we have obtained the most beneficial outcome possible, whether through plea negotiation or trial. Agricultural Business Services
As fifth and sixth-generational farmers, B+T have decades of experience handling various aspects of the agricultural business side. We’ve not only lived and farmed lands ourselves, but we’ve also helped other local farmers set up and run their farming operations. We know you’re not just setting up a business; you’re setting up a generational inheritance. We also know that your farming operation has unique seasonal needs. This means you need experienced attorneys in your corner to help you navigate labor, supply, and government contracts — All of which are necessary for your agricultural business.
Cooperative Law
No two cooperatives operate the same. But they all need a team of legal professionals guiding them in their endeavors. That’s where the B+T team steps into the picture. With more than 30 years of combined experience, Mike Boring and Chris Taylor have counseled co-ops of all sizes. We counsel clients all across New Palestine and the Indianapolis area, guiding them through the legal process and challenges that can arise with the establishment of cooperatives. We advise on things such as utilities, child care, health care, food, and preschool, just to name a few.
